Darius Boyd admitted to clinic with depression

Newcastle Knights full-back Darius Boyd has been admitted to a mental health clinic in order to seek treatment for depression.

The Newcastle Knights issued a statement on Wednesday confirming that Boyd had was being treated.

“We are ensuring Darius gets the best possible care and treatment at this time,” Knights chief executive Matt Gidley said.

“Depression is a serious illness in our society and we are pleased Darius has taken the first step in his recovery by acknowledging he needs help.

“Football is secondary at this point, it is important Darius’ focus is entirely on his treatment.”

According to News Corp, Boyd caused $1500 worth of damage to a hotel room in the Hunter Valley last week.

There is no timeframe on Boyd’s return to football.

The statement said the club would provide any appropriate updates in consultation with Boyd.
