Gold Coast have retained their top eight position with a comfortable 40-point AFL win over Greater Western Sydney on Saturday.

The Suns kicked six goals to one in the opening quarter and were barely headed by the Giants to complete a 20.14 (134) to 13.16 (94) victory.

The win means the Suns have four wins from six matches ahead of next week’s clash with North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium.

Suns’ captain Gary Ablett dominated proceedings, picking up 30 disposals and kicking two goals including a highlight reel moment in the second quarter when he jinked three times before sending a right-foot snap around his body.

Tom Lynch was also a key figure, booting five goals and dominating Giants defender Nick Haynes.

Brandon Matera, Danny Stanley, Michael Rischitelli and Aaron Hall also booted two goals apiece for the hosts.

The Giants big forward line of Jeremy Cameron, Jonathon Patton and Tom Boyd threatened at moments but only Cameron really impressed.

He picked up four majors during a mighty tussle with big Suns defender Steven May.

Patton managed two goals but his impact was dulled with several stints in the backline while Boyd went goalless before being subbed off at three-quarter time.

Will Hoskin-Elliott also picked up two goals for the Giants, who have now lost three straight after picking up two wins in their first three matches of the season.

The Giants’ task doesn’t get any easier, welcoming in-form Port Adelaide to their ground next weekend.
