Frank Farina gets the boot from Sydney FC

Sydney FC have sacked coach Frank Farina.

Chairman Scott Barlow announced the decision after a meeting of the A-League club’s board on Wednesday.

The move comes after Sydney FC scraped into the finals in fifth place and were eliminated by Melbourne Victory in their first post-season clash.

Farina had been at the helm since taking over from Ian Crook during the first half of last season.

He was Sydney FC’s seventh full-time coach since the inaugural 2005-06 A-League season.

Farina reportedly had a clause in his contract which meant he could be sacked if the Sky Blues failed to make the top four this season.

“Frank joined us as coach in a difficult period last season and has always given his absolute dedication and commitment to the club,” Barlow said.

“Frank has shown great integrity and resolve in what has been often challenging circumstances this year.

“I would like to pay tribute to Frank for his professionalism and wish him well for the future.”
