James Hird will return from his suspension to coach the Bombers again, following a meeting of the Bombers board to discuss his wife’s hard-hitting interview on the ABC’s 7:30 Report last week.

In it Tania Hird slammed the AFL over its handling of the Essendon supplements scandal and said her husband was made a scapegoat.

Essendon chairman Paul Little made the announcement at a press conference in Melbourne on Wednesday afternoon.

“Today the board determined that James Hird remains the coach of the Essendon Football Club for 2015, 2016 seasons,” Little said.

“We as a board were extremely disappointed at the recent commentary aired in the 7.30 Report.

“It is clear to the board that the Hird family sincerely regret the unintended significant distraction that this has caused our football club.

“Equally, the board understands the strain and pressure the Hird family have been under for more than a year.

“James and Tania have endured a great deal during this time not the least of which has been the unrelenting media attention.

“The board has sought assurances from James and Tania in relation to future conduct that the club deems appropriate under James’ contract of employment.

“The club and James have discussed clear parameters and expectations moving forward around actions deemed to be in the best interests of our club.”

Hird is in Singapore as part of a study tour during his 12-month ban.

While the Hirds have remained angry over his treatment, Little said it was time to move on.

“Our advice to James is he needs to let go of those issues,” Little said.

“It’s time for James to get over his anger.”

Tania Hird came under fierce criticism in recent days over her interview, but she has her husband’s full backing.

“Of course I support my wife, definitely … I support my wife in everything she does,” Hird said from Singapore on Tuesday.
