The Daily deuce: Day twelve

Berdych the boaster

Not to rub it in or anything, but Tomas Berdych is pretty popular. So popular, in fact, that his Twitter fanbase equates to a small island territory in the Atlantic Ocean.

His many followers are kept updated on his every move, including his misadventure to Melbourne airport tonight. The car carrying the world number seven got a punctured tyre and, clearly unafraid of getting his hands dirty, Berdych got out and pushed. With all that luggage we’re not surprised the tyre exploded.

Smiling Stan

Stanislas Wawrinka is through to the men’s finals and you’d be hard pressed to find a more jubilant competitor. His genuinely joyous reactions to each win, exemplified in the tweet below, have made him a crowd favourite.

The finalist celebrated last night’s win against Novak Djokovic with a trip to the James Bond exhibition. Wonder how he likes his martini?

The happy chap admitted last night that he exchanged texts with fellow Swiss great, Roger Federer, discussing the possibility of an all-Swiss final.

“Roger texted me last night and said he was really happy for there to be two Swiss guys in the semis,” Wawrinka told Jim Courier. “I said ‘for you it’s normal.'”

We suspect it will become pretty normal for Wawrinka too after this tournament.

#Fedal

Two greats take to the court and there’s bound to be some tension. But who would have guess it would be Roger Federer who would crack first? Fed threw quite the tanty during his semi-final against Rafael Nadal after he felt that Nadal took too long between points and was grunting too loudly.

According to Channel 7, Nadal took an average of 28 seconds between points compared Federer, who took 20 seconds between points – the limit in professional tennis.
