There’s no debate that a trip to the Kimberley is considered a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Its breathtaking views, diverse marine biodiversity and globally significant historical culture make that perfectly clear.

With that said, certain key elements of the Kimberley – chiefly its remote location – might feel a little out-of-reach for some travellers. There are those of us who have grown out of any early desire to ‘rough it’.

Others never had it at all – such as a friend I was chatting to recently about the charm of a back-to basics, no-frills spa experience. She replied, “But I like frills.” End of conversation.

She, for one, would be delighted to learn that it’s entirely possible to experience the jaw-dropping beauty of the Kimberley seamlessly, in 2024.

Take a bow, Scenic, whose 6-star ultra-luxury discovery yacht, Scenic Eclipse II, is set to arrive in local waters from April 2024, enjoying its time in the spotlight of Sydney Harbour, before spending the next four months exploring the east and west coasts of Australia and greater Oceania region.

‘Discover the Kimberley Coastline: An Ancient Wilderness’ – just one of their itineraries – allows guests to spend 11 immersive days exploring one of the world’s most stunning and remote locations, in unparalleled ultra-luxury.

 World class yacht

As the only six-star, ultra-luxury yacht operating in the area, the Scenic Eclipse II sets a new benchmark, accommodating a maximum of just 228 guests –  with that number almost exactly matched by staff.

That exclusive context translates to spacious verandah suites (from 32sqm) in which you can truly relax and unwind after a day of incredible discovery, and thanks to the complimentary personal butler service, Champagne can be delivered straight to your door. And you can guarantee there’ll be plenty of space to take in the sweeping views from the Sky Deck or Vitality Pools.

Also on board are two state-of-the art helicopters, ready to provide guests with a birds-eye view of the stunning scenery*, as well as customised Zodiacs, for weaving into intricate waterways.

The sights

Accessing the rugged Kimberley region – one of the last wilderness frontiers – doesn’t have to mean a bumpy ride. Scenic Eclipse II’s innovative design and state-of-the-art technology, including GPS Dynamic Positioning, means she can stay in place without needing to trouble sensitive seabeds with an anchor.

Similarly, the Azipod propulsion systems deliver the lowest noise and vibration levels possible, for minimal disturbance to marine wildlife and ultimate comfort when sailing.

Of course, it’s not all about tech. Also on board is Scenic’s expert Discovery Team, made up of marine biologists, historians, naturalists, geologists, ornithologists, astronomers and more – all specialists in their field, and on hand to enrich the experience with their personal wealth of knowledge.

All inclusive

Raising the bar on the definition of ‘all-inclusive’, Scenic Eclipse II offers up to 10 dining experiences, and eight bars and lounges, from casual to fine dining, whether you choose to dine in one the restaurants, or in the privacy of your suite.

For that extra touch of relaxation, Senses Spa is 550 square metres of nourishment for the body and the soul, including a Pilates, aerial yoga, infrared saunas and salt therapy lounge.

Clearly, Scenic dispels any misconception that exploring the wild side of Western Australia can only be done through hardship. The only challenge is deciding who to go with.
