Missing Mandalay Bay security guard Jesus Campos, who was shot in the leg by Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock, will speak for the first time on The Ellen Show after dodging prior media commitments.

Mr Campos was hailed as a hero after he helped the hotel and police locate Mr Paddock, who opened fire on a country music festival on October 1, killing 58 people.

On Tuesday (US time), host Ellen Degeneres’ official Twitter account announced Mr Campos, who has been out of the public eye since Thursday last week, would be a guest on Wednesday’s show.

Mr Campos will be joined by building engineer Stephen Schuck, who came across an injured Mr Campos when he was sent to check a jammed security door on the floor where Mr Paddock was shooting.

Mr Campos’ whereabouts have been unknown since he vanished shortly before a press conference on Thursday last week, bailing on organised media commitments.

David Hickey, president of the Security, Police, and Fire Professionals of America union, said he had had no contact with Mr Campos since the guard disappeared from his suite in a Las Vegas hotel.

“We have had no contact with him … Clearly, somebody knows where he is,” Mr Hickey told the Los Angeles Times.

Mr Hickey said he was meeting with representatives from MGM, the company that owns the Mandalay Bay, in one room of suite, while Mr Campos waited in another.

By the time the meeting ended, Mr Campos was gone.

“When I got in touch with the other union member, I was told Campos was taken to the Quick Care [a health clinic],” Mr Hickey said.

Mr Campos was due to appear on the Sean Hannity show on Fox, and do news interviews with CNN, CBS, ABC and NBC.

Neighbours told the LA Times they haven’t seen him in recent days and news outlets in the United States reported his home has been under guard by private security since Monday.

When asked of Mr Campos’s whereabouts by the Associated Press, MGM Resorts spokeswoman Debra DeShong said: “[He] wants to tell his story at a time and place of his choosing.”

Mr Campos was key in establishing the timeline of Mr Paddock’s movements, a timeline which has changed dramatically across the course of the investigation.

Police initially said Mr Campos was shot after Mr Paddock opened fire, but this theory was later changed when Mr Schuck claimed he had sighted a wounded Mr Campos before Mr Paddock turned his sights to the festival.

Finally, at a press conference last Friday, Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said Campos was shot by the gunman at 10.05pm, after MGM officials claimed Mr Paddock was firing on the festival “at the same time as, or within 40 seconds after,” Campos reported the gunfire.
