Porn publisher Larry Flynt is offering $US10 million to anyone who provides information that leads to the impeachment of US President Donald Trump.

Mr Flynt, best known as the publisher of Hustler magazine, laid out the offer in a full-page ad in the Sunday edition of The Washington Post, in an attempt to find the “smoking gun” that could remove Mr Trump from office.

“Buried in Trump’s top-secret tax returns or in other records from his far-flung investments there may be a smoking gun,” the advert states.

“Did he make some financial quid pro quo with the Russians? … Has the business of the United States been compromised to protect the business of the Trump empire? We need to flush everything out into the open.

“After nine tumultuous months in office, Trump has proven he’s dangerously unfit to exercise the extreme power accrued by our new ‘unitary executive’.”

Mr Flynt lists numerous reasons why Mr Trump needs to be expelled from office, including inciting violent civil strife with his “racial dog whistling”, and sabotaging the Paris climate agreement.

“His foreign policy decisions have been marked not by sober reflection, but thick-skinned emotion and erratic, ill-advised tweets, often at odds with established policy,” he said.

But Mr Flynt says none are more troubling than the risk of nuclear war under Mr Trump’s watch.

“Most worrisome is that, long before a climate change apocalypse strikes, Trump might trigger a nuclear world war,” the ad reads.

The publisher said he felt it was his “patriotic duty” to help see Mr Trump impeached, and that he fully intends to pay the $10 million sum for damning information.

“Impeachment would be messy, contention affair, but the alternative – three more years of destabilising dysfunction – is worse,” he wrote.

“I feel it is my patriotic duty, and the duty of all Americans, to dump Trump before it’s too late.”

This is not the first time Mr Flynt has offered a monetary reward for information to dethrone a politician.

In 1998, he donated $1 million to anyone who could prove sexual indiscretions by members of Congress, which reportedly led to the resignation of Republican Congressman Bob Livingston.

He also offered a similar reward in 2007, through a full-page ad, to expose Republican senator David Vitter’s involvement in a prostitution scandal, and again in 2012, for then-Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s tax returns.

“For the current crisis, I have upped the ante to $10 million. I do not expect any of Trump’s billionaire cronies to rat him out, but I am confident that there are many people in the know for whom $10 million is a lot of money,” Mr Flynt said.

“I could use that $10 million to buy luxuries or further my businesses, but what good would that do me in a world devastated by the most powerful moron in history?”
