Australian man Robert Andrew Fiddes Ellis has been jailed for 15 years for sexually abusing 11 young girls in Bali.

The 70-year-old, originally from Melbourne, stood trial for abusing the girls aged between seven and 17 over a two-year period from 2014.

It was alleged he lured his victims with money and presents and then took them to his Bali home and bathed and sexually assaulted them.

“I have nothing more to say, I’m sorry,” Ellis said to the waiting press before being led from the court.

“Well, I am 70 now, 15 years would take me to 85. I don’t know if I’ll live that long.”

His lawyers say they will appeal the sentence.

Last week, in a bizarre press conference held at the court, Ellis insisted on his innocence, claiming he paid his victims “generously” to give them mandi – the Indonesian word for bath.

“Try and interview the girls if you can, try and interview the girls and see if they want me in here being punished,” he said.
