Australian mother Sara Connor has faced a further round of questioning, after prosecutors were not “100 per cent confident” of the police case against her, her lawyer says.

Ms Connor has been held at Denpasar Police Station since her arrest last month over the alleged murder of local police officer Wayan Sudarsa whose bloodied body was discovered on August 17 on Kuta Beach.

Last week prosecutors said police would need to re-examine Ms Connor and her British boyfriend David Taylor in order for the matter to proceed to trial.

Speaking after Ms Connor was questioned for a further two hours on Monday, her lawyer Erwin Siregar said police focused on two main topics.

The first was on her position when Mr Taylor and Mr Sudarsa became involved in a fight on Kuta Beach.

The second was whether she saw Mr Taylor punch Mr Sudarsa.

Mr Siregar again questioned the validity of charging Ms Connor with murder, manslaughter or assault in company resulting in death.

“According to me, (the evidence) is not strong enough … I don’t see the help from Sara to David to kill that guy. We will see in the court,” he said.

Instead, Mr Siregar said she should face the charge of helping to conceal evidence after she and Mr Taylor dumped and damaged Mr Sudarsa’s personal items and burnt their clothes in the aftermath of his death.

This would carry a maximum nine-month penalty.

Denpasar District Police Detective Chief Reinhard Habonaran Nainggolan said they were still considering a request by the Australian consulate to move Ms Connor from an office within the station to a regular holding cell.

“It hasn’t been approved by district police chief yet,” he told reporters.
