Crushing end for 253km/h learner driver as ute scrapped, sold

A high-powered Holden Commodore ute has been crushed after its learner driver was caught doing 253km/h.

The 20-year-old was nabbed on a section of Adelaide’s North South Motorway in January, where the speed limit was 110km/h.

His ute was unregistered and he had drugs in his system.

The man was later jailed for almost one year and five months and when released will be banned from driving indefinitely.

On Friday, his ute was crushed, with the scrap to be sold and proceeds going to the Victims of Crime Compensation Fund.

“This is what motorists driving at extreme speed on our roads can face – jail, having your vehicle crushed and sold for scrap metal and a disqualification from driving,” Superintendent Darren Fielke said.

“This is a warning for all motorists. Be responsible on our roads.”
