The father of Jihad Darwiche, eight, who was killed in a crash at his school, has forgiven the driver.

The father of Jihad Darwiche, eight, who was killed in a crash at his school, has forgiven the driver.

Raed Darwiche, the father of a boy killed in the tragic Sydney classroom crash, has forgiven the driver responsible in an act of remarkable compassion.

In a video filmed from the hearse carrying his eight-year-old son Jihad’s coffin, Mr Darwiche, through a translator, said he wished no ill will on Maha Al-Shennag, 52, who faces multiple charges.

“The father says all the threats to this lady, the abuse, is not from them,” the translator, Ahmad Hraichie, said.

“No retaliation is coming from the family of the boy. They have forgiven – if anything they want to sit with this lady and tell her we forgive you.

“When all of this is over, she is welcome to come and sit with the family, have a meal and talk about how they can move forward.”

The Facebook video has been viewed more than 110,000 times.

“This is the true example of patience when a tribulation affects your life,” Mr Hraichie wrote in the caption.

The boy’s casket was carried by a dozen pallbearers down the steps of the Lakemba Mosque as about 300 mourners spilled onto the street.

Many were in tears as it was loaded into the white hearse for the short drive to a nearby cemetery. The hearse was accompanied by a police escort.

Mr Hraichie told AAP that Jihad’s death had hit him “close to his heart”. He applauded the father’s strength.
