Two men have died after a horror head-on truck collision south of Sydney.

Initially the second man, believed to be in the truck that rolled before erupting in flames, could not be found. His body was located in the burnt out cabin of his vehicle more than two hours after the incident.

One of the trucks went up in flames, closing Picton Road in both directions.

Police said one of the drivers was thrown from his truck during the Wilton crash at about 5am on Friday, and died at the scene.

Picton Road is expected to be closed in both directions between Almond Street and MacArthur Drive for much of the morning, with traffic diversions in place.

The Transport Management Centre said motorists have been advised to avoid the area.
