A man who claimed he was on a “drunken maccas run” when he mowed down a fellow western Sydney pub patron after a pool game disagreement has been found guilty of murder.

Michael Allen Meakin, 47, had denied he meant to kill 30-year-old Nicholas McEvoy, in a hit and run at Dean Park in the early hours of February 21, 2014.

But after a week of deliberations, a NSW Supreme Court jury on Thursday found Meakin guilty of murdering Mr McEvoy, whose body was seen by a passing motorist on Richmond Road at 12.10am.

Mr McEvoy’s loved ones cried and said “thank you” as the verdict was handed down.

The trial had heard both men were kicked out of the Plumpton Hotel on the night of February 20, after Mr McEvoy started cheering on Meakin’s pool opponent.

Meakin had been at the pub for almost 10 hours and had bought 21 schooners of full-strength beer, before being ejected with Mr McEvoy around midnight, the court heard.

Outside court, Barry McEvoy, described his brother as a “good man”.
