Swimming coach charged with child sex abuse

Prominent Australian swimming coach Scott Volkers has reportedly been arrested in Queensland and charged with child sex abuse offences.

Police said detectives from the state’s child abuse and sexual crime group had on Friday charged a 59-year-old Sunshine Coast man with on five counts of indecent treatment of a child.

Authorities did not reveal the identity of the man, who Nine Network has identified as Mr Volkers.

He had previously coached swimming stars Susie O’Neill and Sam Riley.

Mr Volkers has faced similar charges but they were dropped in 2002.

He is due to appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on November 13.
