An emergency warning has been issued for an out-of-control grassfire burning on Melbourne’s north-west fringe, with one house damaged and others under threat.

The Country Fire Authority has called in more than 30 vehicles to help contain the blaze at Diggers Rest, which broke out on a private property.

Air support has also been called in to assist.

An emergency warning has been issued for people in the Coopers Road area, and Bulla and Diggers Rest and Calder Park.

The CFA said it was too late to leave and the safest option was to take shelter indoors.

The fire is burning in a southerly direction near the Bulla-Diggers Rest Road towards the Calder Freeway.

Smoke may be visible from nearby communities and roads, the CFA said.

Police have asked people to avoid Loemans Road and Diggers Rest–Bulla Road, and for locals to enact their fire safety plan.
