Bob Katter says he’s elated by his huge victory and may soon find himself in a very powerful position as a hung parliament appears a strong possibly.

Malcolm Turnbull hopes to form a majority government, although Mr Katter isn’t convinced it will happen.

“At this stage, we’re all just guessing,” he told the ABC on Sunday.

“If it goes the same way as last time, umm, there will definitely be a very powerful position for (Nick) Xenophon and myself to play and Andrew Wilkie.”

Mr Katter started his campaign with a slender margin of just 2.2 per cent but has nearly two-thirds of the vote on a two-party basis.

He said the result in his rural electorate of Kennedy, which takes in most of outback Queensland, showed people have had enough of the mainstream parties.
