Woman set on fire, teen appears in court

A 17-year-old has appeared in court accused of dousing his former girlfriend in petrol before setting her on fire.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, allegedly carried out the attack at Marsden, south of Brisbane.

He appeared in Beenleigh Magistrates Court charged with acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm and was remanded in custody until a hearing in July.

Neighbours rushed to the scene after hearing screams coming from the property on Friday night.

The accused’s 17-year-old former girlfriend was taken to hospital with serious burns to her arms, legs and upper body.

She remains in a serious condition.
