ACT Policing has fulfilled its promise to “show them how it’s done”, responding to the “Running Man” dance challenge issued by New Zealand Police on social media.

NZ Police posted a video of eight officers performing the Running Man on Facebook earlier this week.

The Kiwi video has been viewed more than 4 million times, and included a challenge for police in each Australian state, the NYPD, Los Angeles Police Department and the Isles of Scilly Police – a station with an abnormally large social media following in a remote UK region.

“We catch people on the run every day, this was a new #runningmanchallenge for our team,” NZ Police wrote.

The challenge has already gone global with one of the most recognisable police forces in the world – the NYPD – responding with a dance of their own.

On Friday ACT police uploaded their challenge video on their Facebook page, where it received more than 100,000 views in under two hours.

The video features officers dancing on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin, including an officer in full bomb squad gear.

But one officer in particular was a strong stand-out on social media.

“The female cop on the left poppin’ old school,” Scott Gray commented.

Other Facebook users had their own favourite dancers in the video.

“Shout out to the two officers that miss high-five’s at the end, they’re the real MVPs,” Liam Sager wrote.

But a spokesman for ACT Policing said police would not identify any officers within the clip saying “some things remain confidential and that includes our talent”.

Some Facebook users commented that ACT police’s response was “so Canberra” on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin with Parliament House in the background.

“The bike bell at the end makes this pure Canberra,” Kira Campbell wrote.

Also uploading their challenge video on Friday were the Northern Territory Police, whose clip features a 4-metre saltwater crocodile.
