Two women have died and a man and a woman have been injured in a stabbing at Gordonvale, south of Cairns.

When police arrived at Wiltshire Drive on Monday, a man was sitting in the street, dazed, and willingly went into police custody, Inspector Monique Ralf said.

Two women, aged in their 40s, died.

It is believed they are all known to each other.

“When he was speaking to [police] he seemed quite dazed,” Inspector Ralf said.

“The man who is assisting with our inquiries, he did have a few superficial inquiries, nothing of any significance though.

“He went with the police quite willingly.”

Neighbours said they heard a domestic disturbance at 3:30pm and a number of triple-0 calls were made.

Police are speaking with several people and family members, some who Inspector Ralf said saw the stabbings.

“We have three crime scenes which are processing,” Inspector Ralf said.

“Forensic testing will be taking place throughout the evening, and I would suggest into the early morning.”

The man who is assisting police is undergoing forensic and mental health testing.

A neighbour said it was a quiet street, where kids usually played.

“They seem very nice, very nice people,” a neighbour who did not give her name said.

“It is a real shock, pretty scary.”
