At least one man has been killed and nine others injured after a Palestinian man went on a stabbing rampage in Israel on Tuesday.

The attack came as US Vice President Joe Biden, who was visiting Israel, conducted a meeting just kilometres away.

The alleged attacker, who targeted a beach popular with tourists, was labelled a “terrorist” and “an illegal resident” by Tel Aviv mayor Ron Huldai.

He was identified as a 22-year-old resident of the Palestinian Authority city of Qalqilya in Samaria.

It is believed the man first stabbed five people on the beach boardwalk – including killing a US tourist – before running into a nearby restaurant to continue the spree.

The 29-year-old American tourist was pronounced dead on arrival at a hospital in Holon. There are not further details on his identity.

The attacker was eventually shot dead by a police officer, in what ended a horror day for the city.

Just one hour earlier, two Israeli Border Police officers were seriously injured in occupied East Jerusalem in a drive-by shooting attack in the main shopping district near Jerusalem’s Old City.

After the attack, which took place in Petah Tikva, the victim pulled a knife out of his neck and stabbed the assailant to death.

According to Reuters, three Palestinian assailants were killed earlier after carrying out separate attacks against Israelis, while according to Israel National News, two stabbings were thwarted earlier on Tuesday in Jerusalem.

Mr Biden, who is only in Israel for two days, was meeting with former Israeli President Shimon Peres in Jaffa when the attack took place.
