Teen deported for ‘terror links’

An Australian national has been stopped at an Indian airport and deported back to Perth on “strong indications” he was an Islamic State supporter.

The Indian Express reported the Australian with Malaysian heritage was held for questioning after landing at New Delhi’s Indira Ghandi International Airport from Perth.

Officers reportedly received a tip-off and found “jihadi literature”, including IS propaganda, on his laptop.

“When he was questioned about the purpose of his visit to India, [the teen] said he had to attend a meeting in Delhi’s Nizamuddin area, but was evasive in his replies,” a source told The Indian Express.

“He had managed to secure a valid visa. However, after scouring through the contents of his laptop, a call was taken that it was too dangerous to allow him to enter India, and he was sent back to Perth.”

It is the first time this measure had been taken in India, according to the report.

It also claimed the deportation came amid a nationwide crackdown on “terrorist supporters” in India.

Images found on the laptop included the teen posing bare-chested with a rifle, and then sitting with a pistol.

In 2015, ASIO cancelled the passports of 100 suspected jihadists.

News Corp reported the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade was aware of the deportation.
