The show, titled Pyne and Marles, will be a weekly program with “no rules, no scripts and hopefully a few laughs,” according to Mr Marles.

“With this new program Richard and I hope to go into the important issues in depth and communicate to the public our policy positions and the reasons for them,” Mr Pyne said in a statement.

“It is also an opportunity to involve the public in the governing process in a way they have not been engaged before.”

The show will air at 8.30am on Saturdays. Mr Pyne and Mr Marles will not be paid for their time.

One of Mr Pyne’s most memorable appearances on Sky was an interview with David Speers about university fee deregulation in which he repeatedly described himself as a “fixer”.

Mr Speers later won a Walkley Award for his grilling of Mr Pyne.
