It’s Australia Day – the perfect time to reflect on what makes our nation so great.
To celebrate the occasion, Guinness World Records has released some of the top records – either set by Aussies or set on our shores – in the last year.

It’s a weird and wonderful list, ranging from skinny dipping to sheep shearing. Check out the quirky record-breakers below.
1. Largest skinny dip
A total of 786 participants were involved as The Fig Group organised the swim at South Beach in Perth on March 8, 2015.

2. Largest gathering of people dressed as spiderman
An amazing 438 participants were involved in this event at Charterhouse in Sydney, New South Wales on July 28, 2015.
3. Most wool sheared from a sheep (single shearing)
A whopping 41.10kg of wool was sheared from Chris, an errant overgrown sheep rescued by animal charity RSPCA ACT. He was sheared by Ian Elkins in Weston Creek on September 3, 2015.
4. Longest line of surfboards
More than 600 – 608, in fact – surfboards were lined up on Nobbys Beach in Newcastle on February 15, 2015. The line measured 1,123.28m.
5. Most push-ups in one hour
Carlton Williams from the UK achieved the remarkable feat of completing 2220 push-ups in one hour in Margaret River, Western Australia on July 25, 2015.

6. Most people bungee jumping in 24 hours
The most people to bungee jump in a 24-hour period is 542. It was achieved by AJ Hackett Cairns on August 29, 2015.
7. Fastest time to solve a Rubik’s Cube one-handed
Aussie Feliks Zemdegs – well-known in the world of Rubik’s Cube – took just 6.88 seconds to complete the puzzle with one hand in Canberra in May 2015.
8. Largest surfing lesson (single venue)
RedBalloon (Australia) organised 320 people to take part in a lesson at Bondi Beach in Sydney on December 15 as part of the lead-up to Christmas.

9. Greatest distance cycled in 48 hours on a mountain bike
Adrian Ellul achieved this gruelling feat, cycling 1004.41km in a two-day period from October 9 to 11, 2015.
10. Tallest inflatable slide
The Beachouse (Australia) in Glenelg, Australia are the new holders of this record, with their slide measuring 12.90m.
