Turnbull popular with ladies

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull appears to have reversed his predecessor Tony Abbott’s unpopularity among female voters, ranking as the preferred PM for women of all ages.

An analysis of Newspoll surveys shows female support for the government increased by seven points, from 37 to 44 per cent, in the three months since Tony Abbott was deposed by Turnbull, The Australian reported exclusively on Tuesday.

Female voters previously preferred Opposition Leader Bill Shorten as prime minister over Mr Abbott, but they now prefer Mr Turnbull over Mr Shorten, according to the Newspoll analysis.

Turnbull led Shorten 58 per cent to 16 per cent as preferred PM in a December poll of women, The Australian reported. And every female age bracket preferred Turnbull over Shorten.

This would mean Turnbull had the majority support of both genders since taking power.

Male voters preferred him over Shorten even more than women, 64 per cent to 17 per cent, in the recent Newspolls.

The analysis was reportedly based on multiple surveys of a total of 8013 female voters.
