Tony Abbott sought a meeting with the Queen in the United Kingdom in November, but his request was denied despite her being in London.

Mr Abbott – by this point dumped as the Prime Minister by Malcolm Turnbull – was told that the Queen’s schedule was too busy to allow the meeting, according to Fairfax Media.

The staunch monarchist is one of the most famous and outspoken supporters of the royal family in Australia.

While in London during November (26th to the 28th) to deliver a speech at the Margaret Thatcher Centre, Mr Abbott wanted an audience with Queen Elizabeth II.

The Queen’s diaries showed that on the 26th, she had only two appointments for the whole day and was free in the evening.

On the 27th, she hosted a morning reception and then saw British Prime Minister David Cameron at night. On the 28th, she had no appointments in the day and had a night-time reception.

Despite that, Mr Abbott was afforded no meeting.

The report said other former PM’s had been granted audiences with the Queen, and that Mr Abbott consulted Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove before approaching.

Mr Abbott was once the executive director of Australians for Constitutional Monarchy and infamously reintroduced knights and dames honours into Australia.

His decision to award a knighthood to Prince Phillip was one of the biggest controversies of his time as PM.
