An ‘unruly’ female passenger onboard a British Airways flight to Boston will “most likely” face charges, after she allegedly tried to open an exit door while in flight.

British Airways flight 213 left the UK about 1.30pm local time and landed 30 minutes early after the passenger was restrained.

Massachusetts State Police met the plane on the tarmac of Boston Logan Airport to detain the woman after they were contacted by the airline.

In a statement on Twitter, MSP said the passenger was “intoxicated” when she attempted to open an exit door on the plane, not a door to the cockpit, as previously reported.

They confirmed it was unrelated to terrorism.

“British Airways Flight 213 reportedly on the ground. Troopers on jet bridge to take custody of restrained passenger [and] investigate incident,” they said.

“No known nexus to terrorism at this time.

“Passenger being interviewed, as are witnesses [and] flight crew. She will most likely face charges of at least interfering w[ith] flight crew.”

The woman was restrained after she became ‘abusive and unruly’, according to the airline, and it does not “tolerate abusive behaviour”, WCVB Boston reported.

The woman has not been identified. Investigations are ongoing.
