The young woman who posed as a man so her female friend would have sex with her has been sentenced to eight years’ jail for sexual assault.

Gayle Newland, 25 from Cheshire, England convinced her friend by using a male voice, prosthetic penis and forcing her friend to wear a mask when they met up.

Ms Newland created a fake Facebook profile under the name of Kye Fortune and after speaking on the phone with the victim, invited her to meet up on the proviso she wore the mask.

Ms Newland told the victim she was insecure about her looks and about to undergo brain surgery.

The pair had sex ten times until Ms Newland’s act was discovered when the victim removed her mask to reveal Ms Newland wearing a prosthetic penis.

Following the discovery, Ms Newland sent apology emails to the victim, but claimed the victim had always known what was going on, and that they were engaging in “role play”.

In sentencing, judge Dutton did not accept Ms Newland’s defence.

“To successfully pass off a deception of this complexity was a major undertaking, involving dedicated mobile phone lines as well as regular texts from you purporting to be Kye’s relatives,” he said.

“You pursued this course of conduct over a lengthy period, during which you played with her affections, acting entirely for your own sexual satisfaction and choosing to ignore the devastating impact that the eventual discovery of the truth would have on her.”

When the sentence was handed down, Ms Newland had to be forcibly removed by security and could be heard screaming loudly.

During the case, the court heard of Ms Newland’s various psychological disorders, including social anxiety, personality disorder, depression and obsessive compulsive disorder.

However, in his remarks Judge Dutton, emphasised the psychological impact the incident had incurred on the victim, and said he could not depart from sentencing guidelines despite Ms Newland’s psychological problems.
