Former Bandido member Lionel Patea has been committed to stand trial for the murder of his former partner Tara Brown in September.

The 24-year-old is accused of running Ms Brown’s car off the road at Molendinar on the Gold Coast, and bashing her while she was trapped inside the wreckage.

The young mother later died in hospital.

Tara’s former employer, solicitor Jason Hall, said her death had affected many people.

“We thought she was getting to start her new life, that hasn’t happened obviously as a result of what’s occurred,” Mr Hall said.

“It’s been quite devastating for everybody involved particularly the family and for us as a law firm it’s been incredibly difficult as well but we’re just thinking about Tara today, we’re here just for Tara and we’ll wait and see what happens.”

Mr Hall said it was important Tara’s memory was kept in the public eye.

“I think it’s quite critical because we’ve got a situation where there’s been so many domestic violence incidents over this last period, that something’s got to change,” he said.

A date for Patea’s trial is yet to be set.
