Victoria Police have serious concerns for a one-day old baby and her 17-year-old mother who went missing from a hospital in Melbourne’s north yesterday.

Police were called to the hospital at 3.30pm on Thursday, after Amanda Clay’s infant daughter, Phoebe, was taken from the Northern Hospital just hours after she was born.

It is believed the infant was taken by people known to the family, while Ms Clay left the hospital of her own accord shortly after.

Victoria Police said the pair were in urgent need of medical attention.

“Police have spent the night searching for the duo but have so far been unable to locate them,” Victoria Police spokeswoman Belle Nolan said in a statement.

“Medical staff have told investigators there are fears that baby Phoebe is not feeding properly and there are grave concerns for her welfare.

“Her mother, Amanda, is also in need of urgent medical care.”

Police spent the night searching for the duo but have so far been unable to locate them.
