A Los Angeles couple has alleged they were wrongfully arrested and forced to live on the streets after an officer saw them kissing in a supermarket.

Courtney Wilson, 25, and Taylor Guerrero, 22, were holidaying in Oahu, Hawaii when veteran police officer Bobby Harrison witnessed them being affectionate towards each other in the local Foodland.

The pair was hugging, kissing and holding hands inside the Foodland when Officer Harrison told them to “take it somewhere else”, the women claimed.

According to the couple, they momentarily stopped kissing and continued to shop, but when the officer saw them kissing again he threatened to eject them from the store.

It is alleged Ms Wilson then threatened to call 911, before Officer Harrison struck her and pushed her to the ground.

According to Ms Wilson, “The whole situation got physical” when she tried to intervene and was punched by the officer, kicking him as she fell.

“He said, ‘You girls don’t know how to act. You don’t know the difference between a motel and a grocery store,'” Ms Guerrero told Associated Press.

Mr Harrison then arrested the women for felony assault on an officer.

Since the officer did not have handcuffs on him, store staff restrained the women.

Ms Wilson and Ms Guerrero were then released on bail after paying AUD$1800 – and forced to stay with strangers they befriended while awaiting trial in Honolulu because they were broke.

At one point they stayed at a homeless shelter.

The case was immediately dismissed by the judge, and the couple has since brought a civil case against Officer Harrison, alleging they were discriminated against based on sexuality.

“I really just want an example to be made of this particular officer,” Wilson told KHON-TV.

Foodland said they apologised to the couple for the incident.
