A kind-hearted radio station has invited a listener into its studio, after he called up to talk about missing his wife.

BBC Radio Solent station host Alex Dyke gave 95-year-old listener Bill the generous invite on Wednesday (Thursday AEDT).

Bill had previously phoned in to say he was lonely and missed his wife, who had recently moved to a nursing home.

“Bill phoned BBC Radio Solent,” the station on Facebook. “He was upset, lonely and missing his wife. Alex decided to invite him in. We sent a cab to pick him up.”

Bill, from Southampton, married his wife last year.

“We knew each other for 30-odd years and she needed a carer and I took over the role of carer,” he explained.

“Then it became so involved we decided we’d get married.

“She fell over and hurt herself and went into hospital and she had to go into a nursing home, and I go down and I visit her every day.

“You’ve got no idea how sorry I am.”

Bill and Mr Dyke shared a warm hug when he arrived at the station.

Bill revealed when his wife forgets they got married he said “it hurts”. “But, that’s life,” Bill said, fighting off tears.
