The 18-year-old man charged in relation to the death of police worker Curtis Cheng has been refused bail by a Sydney court.

Alou’s co-accused, Talal Alameddine, was also formally refused bail in Parramatta Local Court this morning.

Raban Alou was charged with aiding, abetting, procuring and counselling a terrorist act yesterday, after spending eight days in custody.

Police allege Alou handed 15-year-old Farhad Jabar the gun he used to shoot Curtis Cheng outside police headquarters in Parramatta two weeks ago. Jabar was later shot dead by police.

Alou – who was not in court and chose to appear via video link – did not apply for bail when his charge was read out.

He will face court again on December 16.

Following the short session, Alou was taken from Sydney’s Central Local Court to the Supermax section of Goulburn prison.

Speaking outside court, Alou’s lawyer, Moustafa Kheir, said his client would be fighting the accusations.

The teenager, he told reporters, was charged after being “held for more than 200 hours for the purpose of interrogation”.

“The evidence that the charges rely on are circumstantial evidence. This means there is no direct evidence.

“Raban will be fighting these charges.”

The co-accused, Alameddine chose not to appear via video link.

The 22-year-old is charged with supplying the gun used to kill Mr Cheng.

He is also accused of breaching a firearms prohibition order and hindering police.

Outside court, Alameddine’s lawyer said he had only had a brief conversation with his client.
