Myki tickets will go unchecked on AFL grand final day in Melbourne as part of a week of industrial action by Metro train staff.

The train workers will also stop work for four hours on Tuesday as a lengthy pay dispute between rail operator Metro and the Rail, Tram and Bus Union (RTBU) continues.

The industrial action was announced by the union after negotiations over pay and conditions broke down once again.

“We have continued to meet with the company to bargain through the parties’ claims, but Metro seems adamant about stripping away important working conditions,” RTBU secretary Luba Grigorovitch said.

“Metro has failed to address concerns about working conditions so our members have resolved to commence a week of industrial action on Tuesday next week.”

The announcement follows a series of strikes earlier this month, which saw Melbourne’s rail network shut down for hours.

The industrial action will begin next week and, according to the RTBU, will include:

• Train staff refusal to wear company uniforms for a week starting Tuesday

• Four-hour stop work meeting of all staff between 10:00am and 2:00pm on Thursday

• Non-reporting of late running trains and a refusal to skip stations on Friday

• A ban on inspecting Myki tickets on trains on grand final day
