The trees of leafy Melbourne suburb Albert Park have taken on a distinctively different look.

Residents of the beachside area are being greeted by pairs of peepers affixed to public trees on the busy Kerford Road.

No one has yet fessed up to the expressive eyeballs, which vary from sad, to strung out and snobby.

But whoever is behind the prank has clearly put some thought into it, choosing trees with discernible “mouths” and matching their eyes to create an expression.

Although the project is unlikely to offend even the staunchest anti-graffiti crusader, a representative from the local council told The Weekly Review they would consider removing the eyes should any complaints be received.

In the meantime, it’s hard to deny the peepers are adding some je ne sais quoi to the locals’ morning dog walk.
