A Perth father accused of setting his three children on fire is due to face court.

Edward John Herbert, 43, allegedly set fire to his son and two daughters inside the family’s Doubleview home, north of Perth, on Saturday.

An off-duty officer rescued the children and took them to a nearby residence to provide emergency first aid.

The youngest child, a girl who turned four on Monday, remains at Princess Margaret Hospital in a critical but stable condition.

Her seven-year-old sister and six-year-old brother were discharged from hospital earlier in the week.

Herbert is facing five charges, including two counts of grievous bodily harm.

He is scheduled to appear in Perth Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
