Candlelight vigil attracts hundreds

Relatives of missing Queensland teenager Jayde Kendall say the love and support from the community is keeping them focused on finding their beloved 16-year-old.

It’s been almost two weeks since Jayde was last seen getting into a red car at Lockyer District High School in Gatton on Friday, August 14.

Hundreds of supporters gathered for a candlelight vigil at the Peace Lutheran Church in Gatton on Wednesday evening.

Kendall family appeal for witnesses

Jayde’s family hoped the ceremony would guide the teen back to them, her aunt Jenny Morrissey said on Thursday.

“The love and support of family and the whole community has been overwhelming,” she wrote on Facebook.

“It fills our heart and keeps us focused on finding our beautiful girl.

“Keep on sharing and help us bring Jayde back to our loving arms.”

The 18-year-old man who was driving the red car is considered a person of interest in the case.

During an interview, he told detectives he dropped her off some hours later, however they have found it difficult to corroborate his story.

The man’s car has been forensically examined.

On Tuesday, it was revealed Jayde’s bank account was accessed twice on the day she vanished, at 5.45pm and 5.47pm at an ATM on Railway Street, Gatton.

Detectives have urged locals to search their properties for anything unusual.

On Wednesday, they also appealed to any drivers with dashboard camera footage of the afternoon and evening to provide it to authorities.

The only item police have found in relation to Jayde’s disappearance is one of her personal items, discovered by a passer-by on the side of a service road at Walloon, which is believed to have been thrown from a car window.
