A British man who migrated to Australia last year has been named among those killed when a military jet crashed into a busy highway during an airshow in Britain.

Personal trainer Matt Jones, 24, was among those killed when the Hawker Hunter jet failed to pull up out of a loop at the Shoreham Airshow, his sister confirmed.

“Thank you to everyone who has messaged me. We are devastated to say Matt Jones was one of the fatalities,” Becky Jones said in a message posted on Facebook.

At least eleven people were “highly likely” killed and 14 injured when the plane crashed on the busy A27 highway, which runs next to the Shoreham airport in Sussex, UK police said.

Mr Jones was living in Shepparton in regional Victoria after moving to Cairns from his hometown of Littlehampton, West Sussex in 2014.

Bouquets have been laid in the front garden of Mr Jones’ Littlehampton home.

“We have known him for a long time, he was a really nice guy. He had a good job, training to be a fitness trainer. We have spoken to the family, we offered our sympathies,” an unnamed neighbour said.

“He was a really nice bloke and will be missed.”
