A Melbourne woman’s story of how she locked her daughter in her car has gone viral, with thousands praising RACV Road Assistance for their help.

When Mara Rose accidentally pressed the ‘lock all’ button on her keys, she panicked as she realised her daughter was trapped inside the car.

But when she called National Roadside Assistance, they refused to come to the scene as her package did not include ‘lock outs’, according to Ms Rose.

No locksmiths were available in the area, so Ms Rose decided to call RACV, of which she was not a member.

An RACV priority driver was at the scene in 20 minutes, and released Ms Rose’s daughter from the car.

When she asked how much the callout would cost, the driver Steve advised that it was free of charge, as RACV had a policy to never allow children to stay locked in a car.

Extremely grateful, Ms Rose took to RACV’s Facebook page to thank the company and reach out to Steve.

“In 2 minutes my little girl was awake and in my arms as happy as larry,” she wrote.

“I then asked Steve how much I owed him because I wasn’t a member (I didn’t care how much) he then proceeded to say “it’s a courtesy call”, I replied “what do you mean?” He said “RACV will never ever allow a child to be locked in a car”.

“I was gobsmacked, I just hugged him in tears! Needless to say, you have a new customer RACV! Well done!

“And Steve if you see this, thank you so so so much, you are the best!!!”

The post has so far garnered almost 25,000 likes, and Steve the driver has been identified so Ms Rose can give him a gift of thanks.

It’s hard to imagine any better advertising for RACV, and it was totally free.

Today I did the unthinkable, I accidentally locked my baby daughter in the car. I got to my grandmas house like I do every Thursday for dinner, I took the keys out of the ignition, placed them on my bag with my phone and purse that was on the passenger seat, opened my door then pressed the unlock all doors button on my door, well I thought I did!!! I pressed the lock all and closed my door(it’s the same button, up or down, I’m still not used to it, only got the car 6weeks ago). Went to open the door where my daughter was, then it hit me.. OMG!! I couldn’t believe it! Lucky she had just fallen asleep so she wouldn’t be panicking. My brother Anthony was already there so I yelled out to him, he came running with his phone. I called around 3-4 local locksmiths, they couldn’t get to me in time and told me to call RACV! I then called my roadside assistance company NATIONAL ROADSERVICE AUSTRALIA, I told them I have a toddler locked in the car, they told me my ‘package’ did not include lock outs, I asked if I could add that now and they said no your package doesn’t allow that, I gave him a loud colourful few words and Hung up shaking. I then called RACV, I told the beautiful girl on the phone what happened, and in less than a minute she had dispatched a priority driver to Rowville(melb), and asked if I needed MFB. 20 minutes later Steve from Boronia… My hero arrived. In 2 minutes my little girl was awake and in my arms as happy as larry.
