Man charged over fatal playground shooting

A man has been charged with murder over the fatal shooting of another man at a children’s playground in Sydney’s south-west in June.

Police were called to Salmon Park on Mulga Street in Punchbowl about 4:30pm on June 29 following reports multiple shots had been fired.

‘Suspicious’ fire death

They found a 22-year-old man from Greenacre with gunshots wounds and he died at the scene.

Police have since searched for several people reportedly seen fleeing the scene.

On Wednesday, a 22-year-old man was arrested at a home on Renown Street at Wiley Park in south-western Sydney.

He was taken to Campsie Police Station and later charged with murder.

He has been refused bail to appear at Burwood Local Court on Thursday.

Officers said investigations into the fatal shooting were continuing.
