The government’s ghosts of hashtags past

If you’ve spent any time on Twitter this week you would have noticed that Prime Minister Tony Abbott was gloating over the Speaker’s resignation.

Yes, despite all the pledges of loyalty – there it was plain and in the King’s English – he was pleased, elated even.

Bishop’s failure shared by her Prime Minister

“The speakers resignation reflects a government in chaos. The govt has lost its way, lost its majority and now lost its speaker.”

Confused?

It’s a tweet from November 24, 2011 and he’s talking about former Labor MP and Speaker Harry Jenkins – years before his close friend Bronwyn Bishop would resign and under more controversial circumstances.

Here’s a brief selection of some other ironic golden tweets that have finally come of age.

Leadership

Another enjoyable tweet from the Prime Minister’s days in the opposition also resurfaced earlier this year during the leadership challenge.

“We’re ready. I lead a stable and united team – a contrast to the other side.”

Of course he was referring to leadership tensions between former Prime Minister Julia GIllard and then deposed leader Kevin Rudd.

Social media pundits couldn’t help but relish the irony when Mr Abbott fought off a leadership challenge in February.

There’s also this pearler from backbench MP Dennis Jensen who led the charge to oust Mr Abbott in February.

This is surely a tweet for all seasons.
