Throat slashing accused on ice

A man who allegedly killed another man by slashing his throat at Melbourne’s Crown Metropol hotel was withdrawing from the drug ice at the time of the incident, a court has heard.

Darren Webb, 40, was found dead in one of the hotel rooms last Sunday with his throat slashed.

Elias Herodotou, 28, from Hadfield, was arrested at a house in Malvern East on Friday afternoon after police launched an appeal for information on his whereabouts.

He was charged with murder and has been remanded in custody.

Herodotou chose not to appear in court but the matter was still heard.

His lawyer said he is withdrawing from the drug ice and had depression and a spinal injury.

The case will return to court on July 16.

Police have previously said that at least two other people may have been inside the hotel room when Mr Webb was killed.

There are unconfirmed reports Herodotou and Webb may have become involved in a fight over a girl, or room service charged to a credit card.

It is also believed Herodotou may have contacted a lawyer on Sunday night.

Crown Casino says it can’t comment while a police investigation is underway.
