The son of Adelaide Crows coach Phil Walsh has been moved to a mental hospital as police piece together the moments leading up to the stabbing death of his father.

Cy Jacob Walsh, 26, is now at James Nash House, a secure mental facility.

He has been charged with the murder of his father, a long-time AFL coach in his first year in charge of the Adelaide Crows.

Cy Walsh entered no plea at a bedside court hearing in the Flinders Medical Centre on Friday and will remain in custody until a September 15 court date.

His mother Meredith, who sustained leg injuries, was at the same hospital.

Police believe Cy argued with his father around 2am on Friday at their beachside Adelaide home in Somerton Park.

They refused to comment on reports the drug ice may have been a factor.

Police have appealed for public help in finding a taxi driver who may have seen Cy Walsh, who was arrested in a nearby suburb.

The killing of Walsh stunned Australia’s sporting fraternity and Adelaide’s match against Geelong on Sunday was called off.

The Crows’ hierarchy were bunkered at their West Lakes headquarters on Saturday for further emergency meetings on how to deal with the tragedy.

“It’s not something you can plan for,” Crows chief executive Andrew Fagan told reporters outside the club.

The AFL is staging other matches this weekend.

Collingwood and Hawthorn held a tribute to Walsh after their Friday night fixture, as players linked arms in a circle, and the scene was repeated after Richmond’s win over Greater Western Sydney.
