‘What a lot of rubbish’: Belle’s mum’s rage

The mother of disgraced health blogger Belle Gibson has addressed the scandal surrounding her daughter’s fake cancer diagnosis.

Speaking to The Australian Women’s Weekly, Gibson’s mother Natalie said her daughter needed to spend the rest of her life making up for her lies.

The 23-year-old, who had built a wellness empire off the back of a brain cancer diagnosis, was embroiled in controversy recently after she revealed she never suffered from the disease.

Gibson also claimed she had a troubled childhood as sole carer for her mother, who suffers from Multiple Sclerosis, and her autistic brother.

“What a lot of rubbish,” her mother Natalie said in an interview in the magazine’s June issue.

“Her brother is not autistic and she’s barely done a minute’s housework in her life. I’ve practically worked myself into an early grave to give that girl everything she wanted in life.”

When pressed, Belle Gibson often said she didn’t know whether her mother was alive or dead.

While Natalie admitted part of her daughter’s account of her childhood was true, she said she found Gibson’s claims “profoundly disturbing”.

“I just couldn’t sit by and let her say these things about her family,” she said.

Upon investigating Gibson, Women’s Weekly said they discovered “a complicated family history”, including that Natalie had lied to them about her age.
