‘Not another one’: drama on flight MH179

Twitter went into meltdown with fears of another aviation disaster on Sunday night after a Malaysia Airlines flight bound for Sri Lanka circled the Malacca Straight for two hours.

The hashtag #MH179 began trending as concerned social media users speculated the flight from Kuala Lumpur to Colombo was in trouble.

“Lets us all take a minute to pray for #MH179. Please give us a good news this time. Hope everyone is safe. Land safely,” one user wrote.

“Hoping the people on Malaysia Airlines Flight MH179 get to ground safely,” another tweet read.

After circling for several hours, the flight safely returned to Kuala Lumpur on Sunday evening, with Malaysia Airlines blaming the incident on a drunk passenger.

“The intoxicated passenger started harassing Malaysia Airlines’ crew shortly after the flight was airborne,” the airline said in a statement.

“Due to his big body size, other guests had to assist the crew to restrain the passenger.”

Air traffic tracker Flightradar24 said the plane was forced to circle for two hours to burn fuel and reduce its landing weight before returning to Kuala Lumpur.

The incident comes after a horror year for Malaysia Airlines, with 239 people on flight MH370 still missing and another 298 people killed in the MH17 tragedy in Ukraine.
