Hailed ‘Mom of the Year’, a Baltimore woman took matters into her own hands when she discovered her masked son participating in the Baltimore riots on Monday afternoon.

Video footage has captured the woman, clad in yellow, finding her son in the midst of the riots, who was dressed in all black.

Baltimore’s ABC affiliate WMAR filmed the encounter, and reported that the mother caught her son throwing rocks at the police.

“That didn’t sit well with her,” WMAT-TV reports.

“The video shows the mother repeatedly striking her boy, chasing him as he tries to walk away.”

Baltimore Police Commissioner Anthony Batts mentioned the video in a news conference.

“And if you saw in one scene, you had a mother who grabbed their child who had a hood on his head and she started smacking him on the head because she was so embarrassed,” Commish Batts told CBS Baltimore.

“I wish I had more parents who took charge of their kids tonight.”

Stone-throwing mobs clashed with police and attacked local businesses on Monday after the funeral of a black man who died of spinal injuries apparently suffered during his arrest earlier in April.

Freddie Gray, 25, died one week ago, triggering demonstrations that escalated on Saturday and saw protesters rampage through downtown Baltimore, which is less than an hour from the US capital Washington.

Baltimore police arrested about 34 people and six officers were hurt when protests.

Many viewers showed their support for ‘Mom of the year’ on social media.
