Greens branch backs anti-vax

The Townsville branch of the Greens has been labelled ‘stupid’ by its federal headquarters over its support for the erroneous anti-vaccination movement.

Greens health spokesman Richard Di Natale slammed the Queensland party for claiming via an official social media account that “doctored data” has been used to prove the safety of child vaccines.

“[I]f vaccines are so good, why worry if some kids are vaccinated so long yours are? Right?” the Facebook post said.

The post claimed that “over 100” children were “said to have died” as a result of vaccination, without providing any proof.

Such views have been widely condemned by the medical and scientific community, both in Australia and internationally.

The post was “absolutely inconsistent” with party policy, Senator Di Natale told News Corp.

“As the Australian Greens health spokesman and as a doctor I have always been very outspoken on the importance of vaccination,” he said.

The Facebook post has since been deleted.
