The family and friends of missing Leeton woman Stephanie Scott have attended a makeshift memorial at the local high school where Ms Scott was a teacher.

In an emotional outpouring of grief, Ms Scott’s devastated fiance Aaron Leeson-Woolley and members of her family attended Leeton High School where yellow ribbons and balloons had been tied to the fence, along with a growing pile of flowers.

Ms Scott was last seen at the school on Myrtle Street about 11am (AEST) on Sunday, police said.

All afternoon and into the evening people streamed to the school vigil to lay flowers, tie ribbons and place balloons and cards.

Many of those who attended also signed a poster that was left for Ms Scott.

Stephanie Scott’s father, Robert Scott said the family was in shock.

“We’re all just in shock. We just don’t know where to turn and where to go really,” he said.

Georgiah Pearce was one of Ms Scott’s students and said she had been hoping her teacher would be found alive.

“We all found out over Facebook, we saw it on Facebook and all of us and all her students just shared it, hoping to find her,” she said.

Another student said Ms Scott was a joy to be around.

“She’d understand everything, if you had problems at home, had problems anywhere you could speak to her about it,” the student said.

“She was amazing. From all the people I know who were friends of hers said she was a joy to be around.”

Investigation to focus on five locations

The crime has devastated the local rural community, which has a population of just 11,000.

Ms Scott was reported missing on Monday and her family and fiance described her disappearance as “out of character”.

Police allege 24-year-old Vincent Stanford, who worked as a cleaner at the school, murdered the 26-year-old teacher.

Stanford did not appear in Griffith Local Court this afternoon; instead, he remained in the cells.

He was arrested yesterday after he arrived at a home on Maiden Avenue in Leeton where officers had been speaking to two residents.

His legal representative did not apply for bail on his behalf and Stanford has been remanded in custody to reappear via videolink in June.

Superintendent Michael Rowan said the investigation was going to focus on five specific locations but he would not reveal where they were.

Officers have confirmed Ms Scott’s car was located “very early this morning” and is now one of two crime scenes identified.

The second crime scene is a residential property at Leeton.

Yesterday, Ms Scott’s mother said her daughter had been preparing for her wedding to her fiance Aaron Leeson-Woolley for the past 12 months.

“Everything was pointing towards the wedding,” Merrilyn Scott said.
