VIDEO: Giant crocodile snatches pet dog

Gruesome footage of a saltwater crocodile with a lifeless dog in its mouth has been posted online.

Uploaded to Facebook over the Easter break, the video shows the reptile swimming languidly near docked boats.

The dog, wearing a red collar, does not move.

Since being posted to the Bogged page on Sunday, the clip has been liked and shared thousands of times.

The clip may not have been filmed in Australia, judging by the accent of the videographer, but it is not uncommon for this to occur locally.

Earlier in March, a saltwater crocodile snatched a pet dog in far north Queensland.

Witness Steven Nicolaou told the ABC it only took “10 to 15 seconds” before it was all over.

“It grabbed the dog by the hindquarters. The dog was trying to bite back, it was squealing,” Mr Nicolaou said.

“I went and saw the owner of [that] dog on my way home from the boat ramp and let him know.

“He said it’s not the first time that his [other] dog had witnessed a croc attack.”
