Victoria Police have dropped their investigation of Belle Gibson, who claimed she had donated revenue from her successful book and iPhone app to charity.

An investigation by The Age revealed charities meant to be the beneficiaries of hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations had not received any money.

“The matter was assessed by Victoria Police and we are not investigating it,” police spokesman Kris Hamilton told the Herald Sun.

Ms Gibson’s app was featured in advertisements for the Apple Watch but were pulled after health claims she made throughout the course of her career were scrutinised.

Gibson’s app and book propose that eating certain foods could beat cancer. She also claimed to have beaten multiple cancers but those claims were debunked.

Consumer Affairs Victoria is reportedly trying to work out whether any money was donated to charities.

“Once we ascertain the facts, CAV will be able to make an assessment of the situation and determine whether any further action is appropriate,” the consumer advocate said.
